Do pearls bring bad luck? Are they a good gift idea?

In Polish culture, the superstition has become common that pearls are unlucky. Especially those gifted by a man, and especially worn for a wedding or engagement. According to folk premises, if we have to wear them, we should buy them ourselves - otherwise a tragedy quaranteed... We obviously do not believe in such superstitions and we wear pearls ourselves, and with pleasure!

The birth of pearls. Was it going to carry such superstitions?

When were the pearls created? No, not in Paleolithic! Everyone knows that Aphrodite, the Goddess of Love, is responsible for the creation of pearls. When during her birth she came out of the sea foam (foam and only foam), the splashing drops of water turned into pearls. It is no wonder that in ancient times pearls were a symbol of love, often with an emphasis on its physical side.

Courtesans, in particular, loved them - they probably wanted to please Aphrodite and secure the favor of the goddess. Interestingly, pearls were a symbol of... virginity in nearby Persia.

Pearls in Asian countries - how does it look?

Pearls are definitely not seen badly in the countries of the East. They bring wealth, wisdom and happiness. In Tibet, it is believed that the pearl connects with the owner to such an extent that it loses its shine when the person who wears it is sick.

In China, pearl is a symbol of success and luck, e.g. during school exams. Does this mean that the pearls worn during the trip to Thailand will bring us happiness, and after returning home not anymore? We hope that's not true;)

Do pearls bring bad luck in Poland?

Legends said that the first pearls were tears of angels, and the woman who wears them - will shed many tears, especially through the fault of the donor (here her husband). That is why they were avoided during the wedding, and the engagement rings with the pearl are considered unlucky.

On the other hand, they were always attributed to healing power, and it was thought that pearls arise when a rainbow touches the ocean - can you imagine a more beautiful myth?

Pearls also appear in the Bible - always with good overtones.

Pearls at the wedding - yes or no?

Pearls are beautiful, but you have to care for them, as they lose their beauty without it.

Is this a great message for a newly-formed relationship? Love is not always hard and shiny like a diamond, because as said in vows - in health and in illness. And the delicacy of pearls and their natural shade of white beautifully harmonizes with the wedding dress.

Anyway, ladies - pearls are not the only prejudices related to the wedding. Let's look at the most popular: 
- the bride cannot measure her wedding dress except for fitting
- the bride cannot see her reflection in the mirror before entering the church
- bride's shoes should wait for their big day on the windowsill
- brides can't be driven for a wedding by a woman
- till wedding the bride's shoes should wait for their big day on the windowsill
- rain on your wedding day means unhappiness
- the bride should have a coin in her shoes and rice sewn into a dress

And what? And nothing. Most of us don't do anything about wedding superstitions. We hope you think the same about pearls ;)

Klątwa żadnej nie dotknęła, wręcz przeciwnie - to kobiety powszechnie lubiane i podziwiane. Śpijmy więc spokojnie. I nośmy perły!

Czy perły są dobre na prezent? Czy można je nosić na co dzień?

Perły to dobry pomysł na prezent na wiele okazji. Możemy podarować je mamie, babci, narzeczonej czy żonie, jeśli tylko wiemy, że nosi i lubi biżuterię. Ich uroda jest ponadczasowa i skutecznie opiera się chwilowym trendom, dlatego jest to podarunek, na którego moda nigdy nie przeminie.

Biżuteria z pereł jest doskonała na wyjątkowe okazje, ale możemy również nosić je w codziennych stylizacjach. Oczywiście, nie każda z nas będzie dobrze czuła się ze sznurem pereł w pracy czy na uczelni - dyskretna bransoletka, kolczyki czy delikatny pierścionek sprawdzi się w tym przypadku znacznie lepiej. Ale oczywiście nie jest to reguła - każda z nas może nosić perły tak, jak lubi!

Często sprawdzają się dobrze tam, gdzie brylanty czy rubiny wydają się zbyt ostentacyjne czy wytworne. To dobry wybór dla kobiet, które cenią klasykę. I nie przejmują się przesądami ;)

Perły mają swoje mity i legendy, co w naszym odczuciu dodaje im tylko tajemniczości i nieuchwytnego czaru. Ich biel przez wiele kultur była i jest uważana za oznakę czystości i niewinności - co również jest dla nas bardziej przekonujące, niż poszukiwanie w nich czarnej, mrocznej strony.

Mamy nadzieję, że nasz tekst nie tylko przybliżył Wam symbolikę pereł w różnych kulturach, ale i pokazał, jak wiele mają oblicz i jak ciekawą mają historię. To zdecydowanie biżuteria z duszą.
