How Do We Correctly Measure the Length of Pearl Necklaces and Bracelets?

This is one of the most essential questions when shopping online. In our workshop, we follow a strict standard: the total length specified for our items includes **the length of the pearls together with the clasp when closed**. This means the provided dimension reflects the exact inner fit once the jewelry is worn around your neck or wrist.

Why do we measure it this way? It provides the most realistic measurement. Specifying only the length of the pearl strand would create confusion, as clasps (whether rhodium-plated sterling silver or fine gold) vary in shape and length. Providing the total length ensures complete clarity.

Important technical note: Pearl diameter vs. inner circumference!

Keep this important rule in mind: **the larger the pearl diameter, the slightly longer the overall strand should be** to maintain the same comfortable fit and visual appeal. When closing a pearl necklace or bracelet, larger pearls take up more space on the inside, reducing the inner diameter. Here is how pearl size influences fit:

• Small Pearls (up to 7 mm): Lay very flat against the skin. A 42 cm strand sits comfortably at the collarbone.
• Medium Pearls (7.5–9.0 mm): The universal standard. A 19 cm pearl bracelet fits most women's wrists comfortably.
• Large Pearls (over 9.5–10 mm): Require slightly more length. A 20 cm bracelet made of large pearls fits exactly like a 19 cm bracelet made of small pearls. Similarly, a 45 cm necklace with large pearls will drape at the exact same height as a 42 cm necklace with small pearls.

There is no need to worry about making a mistake! If you find that the jewelry is slightly too short or long after trying it on, simply send it back to our workshop. **We adjust strand lengths free of charge** as part of our service. Any additional cost applies only to extra pearls used to lengthen the piece. If shortened to a standard shop size, the price difference will be refunded.

How to Accurately Determine Your Pearl Ring Size?

For rings, we use standard jeweler sizing systems. Gentlemen looking for a surprise gift often guess their partner's size surprisingly well, but if you want complete certainty, professional measurement is key.

We advise against DIY methods using string or tape measures, as they are prone to inaccuracies. The best approach is visiting a local jeweler to have your finger measured using standard ring sizers. If you are planning a surprise, you can discreetly borrow one of her existing rings for a day and ask a local jeweler to measure it on a mandrel.

Two practical tips when selecting a ring:

1. Band Width: When choosing a ring with a wide band or an elaborate setting around the pearl, we recommend sizing up by half a size (e.g., choosing a size 14 instead of 13.5).
2. Temperature and Time of Day: Finger size fluctuates throughout the day! Cold weather or cold hands make fingers noticeably slimmer, whereas warm weather or a long day on your feet can cause slight swelling, changing your size by 1–2 numbers.

Our standard necklace lengths are 42 cm, 45 cm, and 50 cm, while bracelets are typically 19 cm and 20 cm. We will check our pearl stock and gladly assemble a custom piece for you.

2. Pearl Color and Shade Adjustments

Changing the pearl color on necklaces or bracelets involves selecting a new matching strand. We maintain an extensive inventory of cultured pearls in natural white, pink, salmon, as well as dark tones (exquisite Tahitian pearls or professionally color-enhanced freshwater pearls). We ensure that every strand is perfectly matched in overtone and grade quality.

For smaller items (earrings, pendants, rings), changing the pearl shade is quick and usually comes at no extra cost, as we exclusively select top-grade (AAA) pearls for these items.

Even if a specific color is not listed on the product page, we can usually accommodate custom color requests!

3. Ring Resizing

Each ring listing specifies available sizes. If your size is not listed, send us an inquiry – in many cases, we can fit the pearl onto a different setting size or adjust the shank size for you.

4. Custom Clasps

You can customize the clasp on any classic pearl strand. We offer clasps made from **rhodium-plated 925 sterling silver** as well as **14k and 18k yellow or white gold**. Contact us to discuss options and custom pricing.
